New Vision

Partnership or Resistance

Our library is loved because of the expert, community-rooted work union members do every day, despite many obstructive top-down decisions. We seek exceptional collaboration with administrators on the decisions that affect our work, but will use all tools available to resist anti-cooperative management.

Sustainable compensation for robust staffing

As the library has come to fill countless service gaps in DC, library workers need pay and benefits that support the difficult, socially engaged labor we do daily. We need more frontline workers alongside us to meet the demand.

Comprehensive culture change

Culture is dictated by administrative actions, not words. Union members practice the Core Values, but upper management has mostly weaponized them. To force change from below, we need to adjust administrative processes and the balance of power, starting with a truly human-oriented management.
